my mom's winter bread and a lovely award from annalisa :)


christmas is over... it's sad and i'm still thinking about the wonderful time i had in warsaw... i'm back home now and try to start my regular life :). among many wonderful christmas presents i brought home this lovely winter bread that my mom baked for me. it tastes heavenly and it's perfect with a winter cup o tea. maybe the right name is ginger bread (in polish piernik) but actually there's no ginger... that's why i call it winter bread. do you like the name?

il natale è finito...sono un po' triste e penso tutto il tempo al mio bellissimo soggiorno a varsavia... sono tornata a casa e cerco di riprendere la mia vita normale :) tra vari bellissimi regali di natale ho portato a casa questo splendido winter bread che la mia mamma ha fatto per me. ha un sapore divino e si sposa perfettamente con un buon tè invernale. probabilmente il nome corretto sarebbe ginger bread (in polacco piernik) ma per la verità dentro non c'è zenzero... è per questo che lo chiamo winter bread. vi piace il nome?

swieta sie skonczyly... jestem troche smutna i mysle przez caly czas o moim wspanialym pobycie w warszawie... teraz jestem juz w domu i staram sie wrocic do mojego normalnego zycia :) wsrod wielu wspanialych swiatecznych prezentow przywiozlam do domu ten fantastyczny winter bread, ktory upiekla dla mnie mama. smakuje wysmienicie i pasuje jak ulal do dobrej zimowej herbaty. prawdopodobnie poprawna nazwa to ginger bread (po polsku piernik) ale prawde mowiac nie ma w nim imbiru (ginger)... dlatego zmienilam mu imie. podoba sie wam?


you will need, vi servirà, bedziecie potrzebowac:

- 250g (1 cup) of flour, farina, maki
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, cucchiaino di lievito, lyszeczka sody oczyszczonej
- 1 teaspoon of of mixed cinnamon, nutmeg and if you wish also ginger :), cucchiaino di misto cannella e noce moscata e se volete anche zenzero :), lyzeczka mieszanki cynamonu, galki muszkatolowej i jesli chcecie imbiru :)
- 1 cup of different dry/candied fruits including nuts, bicchiere di varia frutta secca incluse le noci, szklanka mieszanych suchych owocow wraz z orzechami
- 50g of butter (1/5 cup), burro, masla
- 3 eggs - yolks separated, uova - tuorli separati, jajej - zoltka oddzielnie
- 100g (1/3 cup) of sugar, zucchero, cukru
- 125g (1/2 cup) of honey, miele, miodu

preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). mix the dry fruits (don't cut them in pieces) with few spoons of flour. in a pan melt 2 tablespoons of sugar (in order to make it become caramel - probably some hot water will be needed at the end). in a bowl mix well the butter (until it becomes very soft) and add slowly yolks, sugar, honey and caramel. add the flour, baking soda and spices and mix well. add the dry fruits and mix gently. at the end beat half of the egg whites and add to the mixture. put in a well buttered pan and bake for about 1 hour (it may be necessary to cover it with a baking paper).

riscaldare il forno a 180°C (350°F.) mescolare la frutta secca (non tagliata in pezzi) con qualche cucchiaio di farina. in una padella far riscaldare e sciogliere 2 cucchiai di zucchero (per fare il caramello - probabilmente sarà necessario aggiungere un po' di acqua calda alla fine). in una ciotola mescolare bene il burro (finchè non diventi molto morbido) e aggiungere i tuorli, zucchero e caramello. aggiungere la farina, il lievito e le spezie e mescolare bene. aggiungere la frutta secca e mescolare delicatamente. alla fine sbattere la metà degli albumi e aggiungere all'impasto. mettere in una teglia ben imburrata e cuoere per ca. 1 ora (probabilmente sarà necessario coprire con la carta da cucina).

rozgrzac piekarnik do 180°C (350°F). wymieszac suszone owoce (nie pokrojone) z kilkoma lyzkami maki. na patelni rozgrzac i stopic 2 lyzki cukru (tak by zrobil sie z nich karmel - prawdopodobnie trzeba bedzie dodac na koncu troche goracej wody). w misce utrzec maslo (az stanie sie bardzo miekkie) i dodac powoli zoltka, cukier, miod i karmel. dodac make, sode i przyprawy. wymieszac dokladnie. dodac suszone owoce i wymieszac. na koncu ubic polowe bialek i dodac do masy. przelozyc do wysmarowanej maslem formy i piec przez ok. godzine (prawdopodobnie trzeba bedzie przykryc papierem do pieczenia).

1. i had a lovely and happy childhood, i love my family and the places i grew up! ho avuto un'infanzia bellissima e felice, amo la mia famiglia e i posti dove sono cresciuta! mialam wspaniale i szczesliwe dziecinstwo, kocham moja rodzine i miejsca, w ktorych wyroslam!

4. i love cats. cats are in my opinion the most intelligent and beautiful pets. we had a wonderful kitty for 15 years... he passed away few months ago... i will always remeber him! amo i gatti. i gatti sono per me gli animali più intelligenti e belli. abbiamo avuto un gatto meraviglioso per 15 anni... è morto da pochi mesi... lo ricorderò sempre! kocham koty. koty to dla mnie najbardziej intelligentne i piekne zwierzeta. mielismy wspanialego kota przez 15 lat... zmarl kilka miesiecy temu... zawsze bede go pamietac!

5. i dream about being a professional cook or a gardener. i hope that one day i will make it! sogno di fare la cuoca professionista oppure una giardiniera. spero che un giorno ce la farò! marze o tym, zeby zostac profesjonalym kuchrzem lub ogrodnikiem. mam nadzieje, ze kiedys mi sie uda!

6. my favourite colour is pink and my favourity flower is peony. il mio colore preferito è rosa e il mio fiore preferito è la peonia. moj ulbiony kolor to rozowy a moj ulubiony kwiat to peonia.

7. my favourite place to live is scoltland. i would love to have a small cottage somewhere close to arisaig. il mio posto preferito per vivere è scozia. vorrei avere un piccolo cottage da qualche parte vicino a arisaig. moim ulubionym miejscem do mieszkania jest szkocja. chcialabym miec maly cottage gdzies w okolicach arisaig.

8. my favourite season is autumn - i love autumn colours and atmosphere! la mia stagione preferita è autunno - amo i colori e l'atmosfera autumnale! moja ulubiona pora roku jest jesien - uwielbiam jesienne kolory i atmosfere!

9. i love toile de jouy. my italian house is full of it! adoro toile de jouy. la mia casa italiana ne è piena! uwielbiam toile de jouy. moj wloski dom jest nim wypelniona!

10. last but not least: i just love cooking (especially baking) it's my favourite activity and it makes me happy! ultimo ma non il meno importante: amo cucinare (sopratutto fare le cose al forno) è la mia attività preferità che mi fa stare bene! ostatnia ale nie najmniej wazna rzecz: uwielbiam gotowac (zwlaszcza piec) to moje ulubione zajecie dzieki ktoremu poprawia mi sie humor!

Good Morning. This is my first visit to your blog and I've enjoyed reading all the recipes and seeing those great pictures! Those choc cookies look heavenly--will certainly add it to my collection and try it very soon!

In reading thru those 10 things about you--i too love baking as it takes away the stressors of the world! I also love cats and ours is very intelligent as well! I use alot of toile in my decorating--however, I do not have a favorite as I love all of them.
